In this project, 5th graders will be practicing their nonfiction reading skills. After choosing a nonfiction book of their choice, students should read it carefully, tracking their thoughts and especially their new learning. Afterwards, students should group together examples of their new learning into four categories on a Tree Map. Further, 5th graders will showcase five things they learned by collecting and placing in a container five items which reflect five things they learned. A card (provided) should be filled out which explains the connection between each item and the new learning each item reflects. Students will share these containers on the project due date and submit their Tree Map and card to their homeroom teacher.
