The narrator is named Tim Meeker and he is very immersed in the war even though he can’t really figure out which side he is on. He also looks up to Sam and sometimes wishes he could just grow up already. Sam Meeker is Tim’s older brother, he is always fighting with his dad about him becoming a patriot. Sam attended Yale until he decided to join the continental army against father’s beliefs. Father is a loyalist, but wasn’t the fondest of the war he likes peace. He gets in arguments with Sam about him playing “soldier boy.” Mother is an interesting character because in the beginning of the book she is very quiet and feels like she doesn’t have a voice. Towards the end of the book she finally finds her voice and gets to use in a sassy way towards father. I loved the way the author describes the battle, though sometimes it dragged on a bit. I like the conversations the author portrayed in the story because it gave me a better feel about the characters point of view on the war/other topics. -Casey The book My Brother Sam Is Dead is a historical fiction novel by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, and the narrator is Tim Meeker, a kid who lives in the tory town of Redding, Connecticut. He experiences the bad side of the war as his brother Sam, a strong patriot, fights for the Continentals and his father, a tory, argues with him. He is confused throughout the book, trying to decide if he is a tory or a patriot. He comes across many different things but he is only a kid, and he sometimes acts really mature. I like this book because it has twists and interests me. I also like it because there are many different characters and they have different thoughts and I like to see people’s different point of views of the war. -Ernest My Brother Sam is Dead is a realistic fiction written by two brothers named James and Christopher Collier, and is about life with the Meekers during the Revolutionary War. A young boy named Tim Meeker is confused whether to side with his brother and the Patriots or his dad that is a Tory. Tim’s brother Sam is in the Continental army and his father is not happy with him. Will father forgive Sam? How will Sam die? I really enjoyed this book because it had a mysterious ending, and it helps me learn about life in the Revolutionary War. -Zia My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. The genre of the book is historical fiction. Basically, Sam goes out to fight in the colonial army, and His brother Tim and his father go take a trip and his father is killed. Tim and mother have trouble to run the tavern by themselves, and then two soldiers steal cattle and hold Sam guilty so that they do not get executed. One the reasons I like this book because whenever I put the book down it urges me to keep on reading. I was wondering how painful it would have been as a family in the war, and now I can feel the suffering that they felt. -Steven ![]() The book Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel is a fictional novel by Jeff Kinney in the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series. Cavanugh. This book is about a young girl who everyone calls Ratchet, and her hard life. She moves around from place to place because her dad repairs broken down cars and houses. Ratchet is a friendly young girl, and she just wants to fit in. She always gets teased when she’s working in the garage fixing cars with her dad. She’s never had a real friend and really wishes she had at least one. So when her father gets a job teaching boys how to make their own go karts, Ratchet is surprised how all of the boys start being friendly to her just because she’s good at fixing and building things (like go karts). After a while, the boys stop making fun of Ratchet and her dad, and become her friend. Hunter, one of the boys is the most nice to her, and he stood up for her when a boy named Evan started to tease her. Meanwhile, Ratchet tries to find out about her dead mother, and her dad tries to save a park from becoming a mall. This book was great because it teaches the readers how amazing it is to have a friend. It also teaches the readers what a blessing it is to have a parent that loves you, even if you only have one. -Sam This Journal Belongs to Ratchet by Nancy J. Cavanaugh is realistic fiction book about Ratchet trying to discover her true self. Ratchet is a 11 -12 year girl who is homeschooled and her mom is dead. She lives in a small house with her dad. Ratchet is being teased that her dad is a mechanic, that she not stylish, and she’s homeschooled. I like how Ratchet uses her knowledge of working on cars with her dad to help all the boys make go karts. Also I like Ratchet creativity because Ratchet helped Hunter prepare for the go kart test by using some of his favorite songs and then changing the lyrics to go along with go karts. -Dylan ![]() The book Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck is a kid’s novel by Jeff Kinney in the series called Diary Of A Wimpy Kid. Katniss and Peeta have both survived Hunger Games by pretending they would kill themselves unless they could both win. The main problems of this story occur when now 13 year old, worried Katniss comes home to find that she and Peeta could have caused another uprising in the districts because of what they did to win together. Also, Peeta now completely ignores Katniss. Lastly, President Snow, the “boss” of the Games, tells Katniss that if she doesn’t pretend to love Peeta she will suffer severely. Now, Katniss is scared. The worse thing yet is that every 25 years the anniversary of the Hunger Games takes place by adding a special rule to that year’s Games. This year was the 3rd quell and the rule was to send back the victors from the previous games to participate again. Katniss screams and cries because now she and Peeta were back in the Games. Will they survive again through the struggles of starvation and the risk of getting killed again? I loved this book perhaps even more than the first book because it held my interest due to its suspense, unbelievable plot, and the fact that I felt the frustration Katniss felt when she found out that she must go in the Games again or the betrayal Peeta felt when he didn’t know anything about President Snow’s task for Katniss.
