Picture
Athlete vs Mathlete, by W.C. Mack, a realistic fiction book, is about two brothers that are different from each other. Owen Evans is a basketball star and lives on the court while his brother, Russell Evans, is a mathematic and learning superstar. Then they fell out of their team. First, the new coach wants Russell Evans to tryout for the basketball team. Nobody thinks that Russell can do it. Well, think again, he made the team. Owens feel jealous that his brother is taking his spot on the team. While on Russell’s hand, a new kid wants to change the Master of the Minds meeting schedule to Tuesdays and Fridays, because Russell has basketball practice on Tuesdays and games on Fridays. This book is great, because I like to play basketball and I like math. Another reason the book is good is that it shows you how your act to a brother or sister or friend. -Nico

I read
Athlete vs. Mathlete by W. C. Mack it is a realistic fiction book. This story is about two twin brothers who are way different. Owen Evans, who is the athlete and thinks he’s better than everyone else that’s why he gets mad when his brother Russell the mathlete gets put on the basketball team and makes more shots then Evan. Evan gets so mad that he throws Russell’s shoes into the dumpster, but when his parents find out they make Evan go get the shoes that are covered in lunch food from school, everyone wonders if they will become good friends or not. I liked this book because sometimes I have a lot of conflict with why brother and sister and Evan and Russell did too. I also like this book because I’m into sports. -Romi

The book Athlete vs. Mathlete is realistic fiction written by W.C. Mack, and it is about two brothers trying to figure out their true identity. A boy named Owen who is really good at basketball wants to try out for his school basketball team, and his brother Russell who knows nothing about sports gets asked to try out because he is tall. Owen wants to make sure Russell does good on the try outs so he doesn’t get humiliated, but his brother knows nothing about basketball. Will he lose all his friends because of his brother, or will his brother make the team? I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to you because this book always makes me want to read more, and has an interesting plot. -Zia

Athlete vs. Mathlete by W.C. Mack is about two siblings. Owen is an athletic student who is a huge fan of basketball. Russell, on the other hand, enjoys being in a math club and is very good at academics. One day, Russell tries and help Owen make the team for basketball. It turns out that Russell is a natural at basketball so he makes the team. Owen gets jealous because of how proud his dad was of Russell, so he starts being mean to Russell. This is a story about how two brothers put their differences(or similarities) aside and realize that family is more important than a sport like basketball. I really loved this book because W.C. Mack alternated between Owen and Russell’s point of view. I loved the way the author wrote the story because you didn’t expect certain things to happen like Russell being good at basketball. -Sam

The book Athlete vs. Mathlete, is a realistic fiction book written by W.C. Mack. This book is about two twins (Owen and Russell) who are completely opposites. Russell lives for math while Owen lives for basketball. But when the new basketball coach asks Russell to try out, Owen is shocked that his nerdy brother was chosen over him. Then when tryouts come Russell is surprisingly awesome at it! But Owen is mad because there cannot be two athletes. I really enjoyed this book how they flip-flopped characters in the chapters. Like for one chapter Owen would be telling the story, and for another chapter Russell would be telling the story. It also had some very good descriptive words. -Elle

The book Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Old School is a children’s novel in the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series written by Jeff Kinney. The main character, of course, is Greg Heffley, the second of three children in the Heffleys. He has a big brother called Rodrick and a little brother called Manny. In this book Greg’s town voluntarily turns off all electricity and Greg’s school has a camp to Hardscrabble farm in which they have to sleep in tents with many other people. The sanitization there is horrible and you have to bath outside. Can Greg survive his trip to Hardscrabble farm? I like this book because it is funny, like all other Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books. It grabs my attention immediately and after you start, you can’t put it down. I would really recommend this book and all the other books in the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series. -Ernest

Auggie and Me

The book Auggie and Me, by R.J. Palacio, is a realistic fiction sequel to the book Wonder. Wonder was about a boy named August Pullman who was born with a disease that made him have a facial difference. August, or as everyone called him Auggie, was homeschooled due to the many surgeries he had. Wonder was about his first school experience in 5th grade. Auggie and Me, however, was about the same story but from different perspectives. The Julian Chapter was about a bully named Julian and what he felt after what he did to Auggie. The Pluto Chapter was about Auggie’s old friend Christopher, and how he felt about being friends with Auggie. The last chapter was called Shingling and was about a girl named Charlotte and how she became friends with another character, Ximena. I absolutely loved Wonder and almost loved Auggie and Me more. It kept me reading for its suspense and details that were hidden until I read this book. I also thought it was interesting because the author made each chapter in a different and unique time setting. For instance the Julian Chapter took place after the story Wonder, but Shingling was during it. -Nithya

The fantasy book Pippi in the South Seas by Astrid Lindgren is about a young girl and her 2 friends going on crazy adventures. The girl’s name is Pippi and she lives with no parents at all. Pippi is friends with her neighbors Annika and Tommy. They are very good, well-mannered children. Pippi on the other hand is a wild, spunky kid. The main problem happens when the children are at Kurrekurredutt Island (where pippi’s father is king). The problem is that when the grown ups leave the island, two bandits come and try to trick the children. The bandits’ names are Jim and Buck. They want to steal the island children’s marbles that are real pearls from the ocean. I liked this book because it was filled with energy blustering out of the pages. Another thing I loved with the description the author used to describe Pippi. I would recommend this book to anybody who loves a fantasy book with a lot of adventure. -Casey
