![]() Someone Named Eva, by Joan Wolf, is a historical fiction book. The main character is Milada, an eleven-year old girl, who is a fun, outgoing friend to many and loves her family and friends. Milada will soon discover what it means to be brave and humble when her family gets separated by the Nazis. She knows noone, and just want to get back home with her family and friends once more. In this book Milada is soon taken by Nazi soldiers, only to end up in a Nazi camp with a new identity, and her new name is now Eva. Her family is gone, and she is stuck in this Nazi camp. During her times there she runs into some problems on the way. She will meet a friend who will help regain her identity. During the time Eva is soon taken in by a Nazi family. This family only makes Eva miss her family even more. Will Eva ever regain her identity, and find her family, or will she forever be a lost orphan? I really enjoyed this book because it had a lot of history to it, which I love. It also had a lot of adventure as well. My favorite part was when Milada got sent away from her family to a Nazi camp, and then met a new friend, and they would always sneak out at night and start speaking their real language (not German). I also liked the ending, but I’ll save that for another time. If I would rank this book 1-10 I’d say a 10, that just goes to show that I really loved this book, and maybe you will too. -Elle ![]() Three Times Lucky, by Sheila Turnage, is a fiction book is about a girl named Mo and her friend Dale who become famous(kind of). Mo tells her story about how she lost her mother, and now tries to make a new living in Tupelo Landing. The main problem is when Mr. Jesse was murdered and they try to solve the mystery. They have to work together to catch the murderer and to find out why was Mr. Jesse giving $100 each time he was in church. This book is good for two reasons. The first one, is that mysteries are fun to me, and reason number two is because it makes you wonder who killed Mr. Jesse, because at one point you think it is that person then the next minute it is not him or her. Will Mo and Dave solve the mystery, read the book and you will find out. -Nico The book Three Times Lucky is a realistic fiction book written by Sheila Turnage which is about an adopted girl named Mo LeBeau looking for her mother she lost in a hurricane. She has a best friend named Dale, and she helps out at Miss Lana’s (her adopted mother) café. Mo lives in a small town with not many residents or action. But then, there’s a murder that happens to an innocent member of her town. So, Mo believes she can solve the murder, even with two other detectives in town. I enjoyed this book’s descriptiveness and its mystery. Although it was good, I did not enjoy how they seemed to solve stuff so easily that it took away from the fact that it is realistic fiction. It made it seem like just fiction. -Elle ![]() I read a book called Remarkable by Lizzie K. Foley. The genre was fantasy because it included Loch Ness Monsters and tons of magic. This book was about a girl named Jane who was the plainest girl in the world, but she was trying to figure out if Lucky the Lock Ness Monster was real and if Captain Rho Ho Haring was real. Finally she found the answer she was looking for. The main character's name was Jane; she was a plain plain girl that nobody liked, but she was a great girl, a kind, smart girl, but she was not noticed because did not express herself. The main problem was Jane was trying to figure out if Captain Rho Ho Haring was real or just a made up character from a play. This story made me want to keep reading because it did not have a lot of action but it did have a lot of new characters join in to the story. Also this story made me feel or realize how someone that was never noticed felt like hurd and saw. -Willow ![]() I read a biography book called George Did It by Suzanne Jurmain. The book explained the journey it took George Washington to finally say yes to becoming the President of the United States. The only problem was George didn’t want to be president but wanted to relax with his family and wife. I would suggest this book to anyone who is into the beginning of the US. This book was very interesting in many different ways alwell. I never knew George at first didn’t want to be president! -Zak ![]() When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is a mystery book about a girl who lives in New York City. This story is about a boy named Tristan Hunt that goes to a water park and falls in the shark cage, but instead of getting ripped to pieces he hears a voice before he is pulled out by his parents. He wonders what he heard, and later finds out he has special shark commutation and adaptation abilities. His parents don’t know this so they send him to a normal water camp in the Florida Keys, which later turns out to be a camp that helps people like Tristan master his abilities (that go away when you’re 19). Then something bad happens he must team up with other kids with powers, and come forward to lead them to victory. The main characters of this story are Tristan, a clumsy boy with awesome shark powers, Sam, a girl with aquatic mammal communication skills, Hugh, he can camouflage himself and can talk to octopuses, Rider, a know it all show off with great swimming enhancements, Rosenia, a sassy girl with mucus mutations like a snail, coach fred, a overexcited camp counselor that acts like he’s in the army, and director drew, the head of the camp and the leader of all the campers. I recommend this book because it was very exciting and kept my interest the whole time, and when the book ended I wanted to read the next book which is even better. I also like the setting because it was in Florida and most of the places that weren’t made up I have been to, so it was cool to read it. Next, another feature about the book that I liked was the plot and how it completely caught me off guard when it happened, I was like “(reading, reading, then I see it) WAIT… WHAT HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?! THAT IS SUCH A GOOD PLOT! THIS BOOK IS GREAT!!”. After that I just wanted keep reading and reading and reading, and I wanted the book to never end. That’s what made it one of the best books I’ve ever read. I give it 5 out of 5 stars, great book, Ellen Pager! -Jack ![]() Crenshaw is the title and this book is by G.A Applegate. This story is about a smart boy whose old imaginary friend comes back and is trying to help him get through their hard times of being homeless. Jackson is a ten or eleven year-old who is just about to go into 6th grade. He is very smart because he reads a lot of non fiction books. Crenshaw is Jackson's imaginary friend who knows when Jackson needs help. The problem is that Jackson's family went broke, so now they live in a car, and they are trying to get money for food and to get a house. This story made me want to keep reading because I thought they would get their house back, and I wanted to see how they would. This story made me feel how a homeless family felt. -Willow ![]() The book Meet Thomas Jefferson is by Marvin Barrett and the genre is nonfiction. The overview of the whole story is Thomas Jefferson’s whole lifetime from birth to death. Thomas Jefferson is the main character. He is a very good at writing he even wrote the Declaration of Independence. The problem is he has to protect America from losing from the British in a war. Two opinions I have about this book is that it’s really good because it tells a lot about his life and made me learn more about him. My second opinion is that I like nonfiction and this is book is stuffed with facts. - Kaveesh ![]() The historical fiction book Daniel at the Siege of Boston is about a young boy named Daniel who is an american spy. He and his family work in the tavern for General Gage. Daniel is a very good boy. He is respectful and caring to his mother and little sister while his dad is fighting for freedom. The main problem is that the British can tar and feather american spies so Daniel must be very secretive. It is also hard to tell which side everyone is on. I liked this book because the plot was interesting and left me on the edge of my seat. -Casey ![]() The Sasquatch Escape by Suzanne Selfors, is a fantasy fiction story about 10 year-old Ben Silverstein spending his summer with his grandfather at Buttonville. Because of his various operations August's face was much different than other children. When he walked down the street, people stared at him or looked away in fear, although August was used to it. This inspiring story is about August's first school experience in fifth grade. I absolutely loved this book because of the characters' personalities as well as the bits of humor. The one thing I also adore about this book is learning about the experience of being different and still shining. -Nithya The novel Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio is a fiction book. It is about a boy who is named Auggie that has a facial difference. This book is about how he goes to school and how he faces ordinary kids his age. The only problem is how he is treated at school. Laura, the most used character, is a young girl who is a big complainer but really quite shy. One of the problems in this story is that Laura doesn’t like Sundays. Her parents show her the real meaning of Sundays and how important they really are. This author does a very good job at describing their different situations, but at the same time it sometimes is a little unbelievable. -Dempsey ![]() I read the book Sammy Keyes and the Psycho Kitty Queen by Wendelin Van Draanen. This book is realistic fiction. It is about a girl named Sammy Keyes. It’s Sammy's birthday, which should be a good thing, except that Dorito, Sammy's cat, is missing, and while Sammy's searching for him, she finds three dead cats in dumpsters around town. Worse still, Miss Kitty, a psycho cat lady, blames Sammy when it turns out one of the dead cats belonged to her. As if Sammy didn't have enough on her hands investigating these furry felonies, her mother has a confession to make: she lied about Sammy's age so she could start her in school a year early. So surprise! Sammy isn't turning 14 at all; she's going to be unlucky 13 for another whole year. After they run into a creepy house in the woods, they will soon discover strange and powerful magic that lurk in the house day and night. The two orphans, Molly and Kip, are siblings. Molly is 14 years-old and has a strong personality; she always gets in fights, and never lets anyone or anything hurt her or her brother. Kip on the other hand is handicapped, and never really says much; he’s a shy 11 year old boy. When the two orphans who lost their parents at sea are looking for work, their luck has some cost to it. As the kids spend several nights at the Windsor house as servants, they soon find that the huge tree in front of the house is home to not only magic, but the nightman, a tall, old, creepy man who wants this family out of the house for good. These two orphans and the Windsor family go through hard times to try and capture this demon. I really enjoyed this book; it was adventurous and mysterious. I liked it because every page you turned in this book there was always another question you had to ask yourself. The only thing I didn’t really like about this book was that it definitely wasn’t the funniest book; it was more mysterious, and action-packed than funny. My favorite part was when Molly found out that the nightman only comes at night, and how she discovers that he can take peoples’ souls. I hope you can find time to read this book, because I loved it. -Ellie ![]() Kat Fish, by Obert Skye, is a fiction story about a girl that comes out of a magical closet and turns to half-fish, half-human.
