The ways the Great Awakening helped develop the idea of colonial independence from England was by the churches and how they kept on growing. Religious freedom grew during the mid-1700s because people enjoyed more options for worship. This caused many preachers to recognize the religious needs of all people, including American Indians and enslaved Africans.
The Great Awakening changed the way people lived in the colonies. One thing that happened because of The Great Awakening was that some of the leaders worried that they were losing power and influence, especially on young people. Something else that happened was that the church became separate from the government. One other thing that The Great Awakening caused was that it created an independent spirit that grew over time. These are a few of the effects of The Great Awakening.
The Great Awakening helped from today The United States of America. It helped by weakening the Puritans who wanted to stay with the church of England by turning them to be independent. Also, it helped found many colleges including one that educated American Indians. This had an influence to treat people equally. Although it did not end slavery it influenced that people should be treated equally, but not everyone listened to this. That was why The Great Awakening was such a big role to eventually leading to independence.
The Great Awakening was a religious movement that occurred in the 1730s Colonial life. The main message of the Great Awakening preachers was that people should build their own relationship with God rather than blindly following rules. These new ideas also emcompassed the idea that religion should be for all, including Africans and Indians. These new Christian sects such as Baptists and Methodists became more popular than the Anglicans and Puritans. This furthered the idea of religious freedom and separation of church and state. This spirit of independence effected the way the Colonists' viewed Great Britain.
The Great Awakening helped develop the idea of colonial independence from England as it taught the colonies that they could be independent sprits. The Great Awakening taught them to treat everyone as equals and that the church should be separate from governmnet. This freedom gave them the ability to see the need to be free from England.
The Great Awakening helped develop the idea of colonial independence from England in many ways. The major effect of this new religious movement was a rebellion against strict authoritarian religious rule which spilled over into other areas of colonial life. The Great Awakening opposed the notion of a single truth or single church. The Puritans and Anglicans drastically declined opening the way for a multitude of denominations and a national open mindset. It was through this revivalism that the colonists were finally able to step out from under the rigid established Christian churches and gain religious control over their own nation. The Great Awakening taught that no group or class should receive special favor and that God loved everyone the same. The preachers did not stress following rules, but instead focused on making the services more personal and engaging. This new way of thinking brought about by the Great Awakening helped create an independent spirit that only grew over time. Another way the Great Awakening changed the way of colonial life and made them more independent was by starting the trend of separating church from government. The Great Awakening led to the founding of new colleges and this allowed for more teaching and training for the colonists. The Great Awakening prepared the Colonists for their independence from England, by showing them they could have religious power in their own hands. The movement brought religious unity to the colonies, that transformed into political and cultural unity as well. Due to the Great Awakening, they developed a vision of freedom from British rule, that would change the colonies’ relationship with Great Britain.
Wow, what a deep and clear understanding of this event and the affect on the 13 Colonies.
The Great awakening helped colonists be more independent. George Whitefield preached how God loved the poor and the rich equally. The colonists realized they could follow whatever church they wanted. Great Britain wanted the colonists to follow the Puritan or Anglican church. The colonists began to realize they had more choices and that England wasn’t always right. That is why the Great Awakening helped colonists become independent from England.
The people were separating from the church of England. People wanted to be independent and go to school. The also wanted to different churches.
One way that the Great Awakening helped England develop the idea of colonial independence is helping England understand more that slaves are other people too and that they should care about them more instead of having them sit in that back of the church or outside. Young children left their bad habits that once troubled the preachers. Neighbors would talk about their religion openly, and didn’t mind sharing. People started to be concerned for the poor.
The Grate Awakening taught independence and equality of all. blacks, whites, Indians and the powerful were all equal in the eyes of God an Independent spirit was born . Over time they began to believe in this independence or separation from the government and eventually England.
The Great Awakening was a very big part to the start of the United States of America! First of all, The Great Awakening was a huge change to the practices the colonists were used to doing. It was when church changed from being boring to exciting. The new preachers would come to the colonists in open fields instead of the colonists coming to them. Early churches did not serve all people equally. Rich and powerful people would sit in the front, and enslaved Africans would have to sit in the back. New preachers realized that everyone had religious needs. So, the churches had more freedom toward the colonists. Anyway, people started to feel more and more powerful with these rights, which gave them the confidence to lead on their own, and go against others, such as England’s thoughts. This lead to colonists developing the idea of breaking away from England, and gaining their independence!
The great awakening helped the colonists realize that they had the freedom to be separate from England after seeing how people were with religions. They saw democracy in the church and thought if others can have independence well than I can! Some may say it was an important event to the revolutionary war. It also started the interest for religious education and caring for the poor. Schools such as Harvard and Dartmouth were founded which are now part of the Ivy League.
The Great Awakening had changed the church sermons from "boring." to "WOW!". Also, new preachers came to open fields to preach, rich and powerful were in the front, poor were in the back. The new preachers' ways of preaching got all the people thinking,"wow, this stuff is interesting!". after listening to the sermons, they felt like different people and thought about God, which got them more confident, and that lead for them to be independent. That's how I think the colonists gained independence.
The Great Awakening was the beginning of frusterated colonists in the colonies. The Great Awakening might have helped the idea of colonial independence from England because colonists that were not considered wealthy to the community must have felt like they were a little bit more free about were they sat in church ,or that they were just as equal as the powerful and wealthy ones ,in God's thoughts. Colonists must have also been frusterated about opinions about wealthy and poor people and colonists must have gotten mad with leaders during the process and caused some violence and when the leaders became more loose on somethings the colonist must have thought wow we can persuade our leaders to change the rules and make them do what we want. The Great Awakening was the first spark that started anger between British colonist and British soldiers and leaders!
