Interview A Scientist Book Creator ProjectThis project allowed students to connect topics learned in Science and English. At the culmination of our unit on Capitalization and Punctuation, students had the opportunity to work in pairs, interviewing each other about the planets they discovered in Science class. Each student worked as an interviewer asking questions and then as a scientist, answering questions about their own unique planet. All students then used Book Creator to create comic books, writing the dialogue between interviewer and scientist in quotation marks with accurate capitalization and punctuation.

First Published Piece: NarrativeFor this piece, students spent several weeks being exposed to different pre-writing strategies and meeting authors. They practiced the pre-writing process and generated ideas about a variety of topics. Then, they narrowed their many ideas down to eight, and then one final idea. They were asked to tell a story about a person, place, or event, something they are good at or want to become, or to retell an existing fairy tale, changing one or several components.
